A Prayer for My Mother-essays on aging, death and grief.

by Suzanne Jenkins

Book review

A Prayer for My Mother is a compilation of posts from my blog, 2sheepinthecity.com, named for my two ten year old ewes, Spot and Slick, who moved with us from New Jersey to Michigan three years ago. The blog began as a way to document the work I was doing in my textile studio, but it became more personal as I found that it was not only therapeutic to admit to the world that I was struggling, but also that confessing it was helping other women. (And some men.)
Over time, the posts receiving the most comments were the ones in which I lamented over growing older, or admitted being heartbroken over the death of a pet, or cried over depression or some other life changing event. When my mother died in August of 2011, I received almost two hundred responses.Losing a parent is a universal sadness we all will experience if we live long enough.
I hope you enjoy these essays on life. Please contact me through my website, suzannejenkins.net. As more testimonials on grief come in, I am putting those precious documents into an ebook, too.I would love to hear from you, and with your permission, include your stories in the next book.
