Money Can't Buy Me Love (Diary of a Snob, #2)

by Grace Dent

Book review

Money Can't Buy Me Love is the second book in the Diary of a Snob series.

The book is about Poppet Montague Jones who is 87th in line to the British throne. In this book Poppet has a secret boyfriend Kwame who her mum doesn't approve of as he is poor and lives on a council estate. Whilst Kwame is clever Poppet is not so much and after getting suspended from school, he begins tutoring her and puts there relationship in question.

Poppet also spends a lot of time with her friends who, as all rich people seem to do, spend there life shopping. Unfortunately for Poppet she gets grounded and has all that she loves taken away from her.

I liked this part of the book as it was good to see how she would cope without her mobile or credit card or just the freedom of being able to leave the house. I think these chapters were some of the funniest parts of the book.

The book is written as a diary of Poppets. I don't usually like this style of books but I found that it fit really well for the book.

The language used in the book is just as a teenager would speak and this added to the humour. Because of this I think it is more suitable for older teenagers.

Around half way through the book I could predict what was going to happen but I found it enjoyable to read anyway. I liked the ending but found it strange that the character involved was only introduced nearer the end of the book.

My favourite part of the book was the New Years resolutions at the beginning as I found them very funny and a good introduction to Poppets life if you hadn't read the first book.

I think this book is brilliant and much better than the first book. I enjoyed reading it a lot.
